| Dear Shirley,
What should I do? My beagle constantly scratches himself even though I am feeding him raw food. I also supplement with vitamin C and salmon oil. Josey
Dear Josey, Please call the producer of the vitamin C and ask if they use corn in their product. Lots of vitamins are made with corn and this may be causing your poodle his/her problems. Also check your daily pollen count (www.pollen.com) and see if your beagle is more itchy on high pollen days. Good luck ! Shirley |

| Dear Shirley,
We have a problem with our kibble fed dog. He has licked his paws raw and the vet wants to put him on steroids . Do you have any suggestions ? Thanks ! Flo in Maine
Dear Flo, Kibble has so many ingredients that it is extremely difficult to pinpoint allergy triggers. Why not change over to a raw or homecooked diet and document high pollen days to see if there is a connection to his licking ? Some allergy triggers in kibble may include: wheat flour, rice, corn, brewers dried yeast, wheat germ, vitamins containing corn, food additives, etc. The list is endless. I wish you well ! Shirley |

| Dear Shirley,
Every time I offer my little gal cottage cheese, she has horrible diarrhea. Why does this happen ? Zoi
Dear Zoi,
Your little lady may be lactose intolerant, but in order to be sure, you need to visit your vet who will test for it. Good luck ! Shirley |

Shirley's background Information: I studied alternative medicine as part of my Anthropology major at Hunter College of the City University in New York. My family has a history of severe allergies and we can trace five generations with these health problems and so I have "hands-on" experience with this topic. During the twenty years that I spent in Germany, I also studied German homeopathy and became familiar with many herbal remedies which are used in Europe. I am a dedicated dog lover and would like to try and educate owners on the topic of allergies. I hope that I can be of help to you and your dogs. |
