August book review: Doin' Texas with your Pooch

Eileen Barish has published an entire series of directories which include:

*  DOIN' ARIZONA WITH YOUR POOCH

* DOIN' CALIFORNIA WITH YOUR POOCH

*  DOIN' NEW YORK WITH YOUR POOCH

*  DOIN' TEXAS WITH YOUR POOCH

*  VACATIONING WITH YOUR PET

Included in the Doin' Texas With Your Pooch is information on beachcombing on hundreds of miles of beaches, hike bird filled forest trails in Piney Woodlands, exploring remote, secluded canyons, and more ! The chapter on GATOR Guidelines caught my attention and I value Eileen's advice as she tells readers not to run away from gators, but rather to retreat slowly, and keep retreating until the alligator no longer demonstrates aggressive behavior. Also, if you see an alligator opening it's mouth, plan an escape route (I think I would have a panic attack or something, wouldn't you ??), keep your eyes on it (sure !), and retreat uphill whenever possible (hmm..Texas is usually flat). Oh my God !  There have been reports of gator's in suburban areas and not just in some jungle, some place.  These guidelines are followed by a chapter on first-aid emergency treatment ! Other chapters in her book include tips for travel safety, trail manners and methods, traveling by plane and even 10 ways to prevent aggression in your dog (forget about growling at those gators !). So......even if you don't have travel plans with your pooch, you will find this book of great interest and it may even save both of your lives !
